Yes, we are back at it again on our business facebook page, having yet another auction. This auction is a fundraiser auction to help a little boy who is soon going to pass away. His wish, to help raise money to buy the Payton Manning Wing of Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana... TOYS.. yes, this is his story and his wish.
While reading through his website, it really made me cry. Going from a healthy little boy to doctors not being able to understand or figure out what has caused this little boy's body to totally start shutting down.
You can read about Scotty Abel here on his blog.. I will warn you, please bring tissue prior to sitting down and reading his story. http://www.scottyabel.com/
Please come to our facebook wall and cast an auction bid for the items we have listed. Thank you so much,
Sherri

Cont: What not to do on a website.
I scout websites about 9 hours or so a day. I have done this for years now. Not looking for anything other then how other website owners set up the first page on a website.
It never seems to amaze me that some website owners and believe or not
web developers, leave so many important related material out of the homepage.
I have noticed along my journey, so many websites that have no telephone number listed. Why would anyone want to venture in to buying a product from a website owner that "hides" important information from the public. Another thing I have noticed, "Click Here" to enter on to our homepage. If I have to go knock on a website to let me in, do you really think feed readers are going to be able to knock (click on) to be able to get to the main page to read and index in to the search engines. NO, feed readers are not humans, they can not click to do something. I have seen so many website, with no right click. (this is where you can not right click on an image and save it or words used onto your own computer). The idea behind this is great, but for those who do not have an email program selected inside a computer, there is no way to copy and paste a company email address, let alone try to figure out how to reach the website owner. Which brings me to my next issue, no contact us page, or blank form inserted in to the website, so those who would or need to contact the website owner can leave questions, feedback or inquire about product details. No name on pictures inside the homepage. Or music that plays so loud that you can't even focus on the website words or the products they are attempting to sell. How about what I refer to as the maze websites, ever been on one of these, where you have to keep clicking to actually get to the product price..
I wonder, what were these website owners and developers were thinking, when they invested time and money to create an online website to sell products.
How about the homepage, that goes on and on and on.. Or the websites that display Google ads. Do you really want to buy products from someone who is trying to EARN money by promoting another companies products, instead of there own. Are these website owners, just that broke.
I could go on and on about the wrongs of homepage first impressions. Yes, all website pages are first impressions. The normal website viewer spends less then 30 seconds on any homepage, you have either attracted the attention the first time, or that customer is gone and on to the next website buying from that other website.
Have you ever searched out a keyword in google, msn, yahoo, aol, etc. Looking for a certain product and up pops someone's website that does not fit those keywords you were looking for. You typed out gardening tools and a website for purses comes up. People remember things that upset them, more then anything else. Do you really think this upset person is going to return one day and buy a purse? It's bad business and nothing gets around faster online then the spreading of the word of someone's bad business. People talk about things that set them on fire !
Remember this, your homepage, is your branding image, it is what speaks to online customers about what your company and products are really all about. It draws them in, wanting to read more and see what you have to offer. If you don't capture the attention of someone with in those first 30 seconds, they are gone and will not return.
A pole conducted last year of ladies who shop online (82% of the purchases made on-line are LADIES). Agreed that the most "eye" appealing websites are those that feature a baby, a lady with a smile or both on the top of a website or close to the top. Second was the back ground color, of light pink, or a cream white and pictures that are soft to the eyes with no borders. Third was an easy to navigate website and fourth was a phone number.
If your traffic is high, but no one is buying your products, you might want to really take a closer look at your homepage/ index page from a buying customers perspective. Do you follow suit to what online buying customers demand, or did you set up your website the way you wanted?
Come back later this week, when I will be addressing: As a website owner how to increase your customer service to produce more sells.

Proper SEO

| Proper SEO |
What really is SEO and why does it matter to my online business?
I am sure at one point or another, you have typed out something in to a search engine bar, looking for something specific. Several pages then were brought up in your search with a huge list of businesses matching those key words:
SEO; stands for: Search Engine Optimization
How does this relate to your online business?
You want your key words to be used when someone else types these keywords out in to a search bar, causing your website to be placed in to one of these top pages. The higher you are in the "search" for keywords relating to your online business, the higher you will climb in the results that are then given on the pages that you used to search out your keywords.
Let me explain further: In laymen terms
Feed readers, are readers that the human eye can not see. These readers come to your website and read all of your content (words to describe your website) and then every page that exist on your website. These feed readers as well read pictures. This is what places you on search engines according to your keywords.
Why is SEO so important and how do you know if your website will be placed on page one of Google rather then page 9000 or further back. What can you do to increase your ranking?
Everyone wants to be high on the search engines, it's what leads customers to your website to shop and purchase your products.
Here are a few tricks in the proper way to climb up the search engines and collectively score a higher ranking.
Here is an example:
Lets call this (fake) website, LittleBittyPrincessBows
That is the name you have purchased for your online business. Little Bitty Princess Bows. You create and make wonderful hair bows and you have had great luck selling these bows to friends, family and neighbors. Now you decided to purchase an online business website name and create a website so online customers can now purchase your wonderful hair bows.
Because your website has 4 names involved, you would want to write something concerning this name on to your homepage. Like this (using your keywords) ; Welcome to Little Bitty Princess Bows.
We create and make wonderful little bitty hair bows in pink as well as violet, hair bows in purple, hair bows in yellow. Princess hair bows and little hair bows. Hair bows for girls with short hair, hair bows for long hair. Hair bows for brown hair and hair bows for parties, hair bows for church and hair bows for special occasions.
Your little bitty princess will look adorable in our hair bows
You would want to name your first picture, Little Bitty Princess Bows hair bow pink. You would want to name your second picture Little Bitty Princess Bows hair bow violet and so forth and so on. (using your keywords and description on your website)
The title would become: Little Bitty Princess Bows hair bows
Your key words would look something like this: Little Bitty Princess Bows, hair bows, hair bows in pink, hair bows in violet, hair bows in purple, hair bows in yellow, princess hair bows, little hair bows, hair bows for girls, hair bows for short hair, hair bows for long hair, hair bows for brown hair, hair bows for parties, hair bows for church, special occasion hair bows
(these keywords are now in your description of your website) as seen above
Do you see how the whole thing flows together to line up your keyword of "BOWS".. as this is your main keyword.
Using the above would place this website inside the search engines around page one, number 5 or 6 spot. Causing your website to be seen by more people, using the search terms. If someone typed out in the search engine church bows, or princess bows, or special occasion bows, this website above would come up on the search engines.
Use a word doc, type out the title of your homepage, then use your keywords to describe your website. Remember the line up is as follows:
Title, Description and key words. All must match and be flowing on your website.
What not to do on a website, we will talk about this tomorrow
